If you are a writer, or have aspirations to write, then the chances are that you have read something, whether it is a book, a blog post, or article.

NOT OPTIONAL

A lot of people seem to think that reading is an optional thing; that you can become a writer without ever having to pick up a book.

I can tell you right now, you can’t.

There may be a very select few, who can successfully write without ever reading anything, but these people are not generally you or me.

AN ESSENTIAL PRACTICE

Reading is absolutely essential. Stephen King says in his book “On Writing” that if you do not have time to read, then you do not have time to write. This is so true.

Writing is a practice that requires us to develop and hone our skills, and a part of doing this, is reading.

BOOKWORM

I am lucky. I have always loved reading. It is one of my happy places. I love the ability a book has to transport me to another world. I love how I can lose myself and any worries that I have, when I step inside the pages of a book.
