The Meeting
I looked around at us all. We seem so normal; so ordinary. You wouldn’t think that every month, we meet up to discuss and analyse our mistakes… Every single, embarrassing thing. Sometimes I wonder why I do it: why I do any of it.
“Ahem!” Morray coughs, clearing his throat and jolting me out of my thoughts before I can go any further. Probably a good thing, really. They say you shouldn’t keep overanalysing things. That’s exactly why we all meet up… so that we don’t have to do that and drive ourselves mad!
“Okay, shall we call this meeting to order?” Morray says, in his gruff, no nonsense tone of voice. I nod, while others murmur their ascent. I look around, wondering who will be the first to speak, while knowing that it won’t be me. I’m never the first to speak. That’s just not how it works. At least not in my head, anyway.
“Carla, do you want to start us off?” I jump as he says my name. I can’t believe he’s throwing me in at the deep end; again! He knows how much I hate it. I look around at them all, watching me; waiting for me to confess this month’s sins, and I really don’t know where to start.
