I was recently assigned this book to read for my book club. It was not my choice, nor was it something that I would have chosen. In fact, had I just read the kindle sample, I can honestly say that I may well have given up on it, and not bothered to read on.

KEEP GOING

However, this was a book club book, which to me, means that I have to at least give it a really good go.

So, I forced myself to read on.

The first three chapters were all written from the perspective of different characters, none of whom, the author explained. I could not see a link between them, and as I persevered, this annoyed me, as each chapter finished on a kind of cliffhanger.

CLARIFICATION

As I got further into the book, these links became clearer, and I found myself getting into the story and rooting for the characters- well, some of them, anyway…

The story itself was very well written and conceived, and kept me guessing right up to the end of the book. The characters were not necessarily likeable, or unlikeable. They were complex, and I found myself empathising with certain ones at different times.
