Ordinarily, Laine would have been upset, but today, she had more pressing, worrying matters to think about, and she simply hurried down the path and indoors, to collect a few things, which she stuffed into a canvas pack, before leaving the house again, and leading Hamiss and Kurdah with her, this time, along a different path, deep into the forest.

The trees were still covered in their summer dress, despite it being early autumn. The sun shone, casting a warm golden glow on the ground as they walked, though a chilly breeze definitely seemed to herald the coming of autumn and the colder months, but Laine didn’t mind. She actually quite liked the cold, and often baffled her mother by insisting on sleeping with the windows open, even in the depths of winter.

They made their way deeper and deeper, the trees growing gradually thicker and denser until it was practically dark, though, yet again, this didn’t particularly worry Laine, as her mage sight allowed her to see in all different kinds of environments.

Hamiss and Kurdah, on the other hand, were not so lucky and made such a noise tripping and falling over protruding tree roots, stray branches and even each other, that Laine was almost in despair, “If you two don’t shut up, you’ll scare them all away and then we’ll never be able to find them!” she…
