The Faerie Chronicles: Part 2
Laine listened to Kurdah in growing fear and panic. One of her closest friends was a faerie, and if what Kurdah was saying was true, then the entire faerie community was in great trouble.
She turned on her heel and quickly retraced her steps, dragging the two fauns behind her, back past the troll she had fought so desperately to pass earlier, and now completely having forgotten about her mother’s shopping, which she had been sent out to buy in the first place.
As she walked up to the troll, he stared at her agape,
“Back so quickly?” his voice dripped with sarcasm as he hopped from one foot to the other, ready and poised to think up yet another devilish riddle, but then, on seeing Kurdah, who had managed to solve one of his most difficult ones without even really thinking about it, he slumped, knowing that it would only be wasted on this little party.
“Fine, go on through” he said in a voice so forlorn that Hamiss actually felt sorry for him, and was about to stop, when Laine gave him a look so frightening that he gulped and hurried on the way with them both.
Laine didn’t stop walking until she reached the gate of her garden, where she suddenly stood still, trying to catch her breath as she looked at the empty basket in her hands and realized…
