Since the death of Caroline Flack, the hashtag ‘BeKind’ has been trending pretty much daily.

People have suddenly become completely preoccupied with talking about being kind to others. That’s the issue though- that’s all they’re doing- talking about it.

The problem with this, and in fact, any viral hashtag or slogan, is that it isn’t enough to just talk about it. I have seen so many people use this hashtag, and a large number of them have done several very unkind things to others- but it’s okay, because they’ve used the hashtag, and people have seen it — because that’s all that matters, right?!

IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU SAY

I know I sound bitter and very judgemental, but it’s the truth. An increasing number of people seem to think that as long as they’re seen to say certain things, then that’s all that matters and that it negates all of the other stuff that them may say or do.

I think, in our current climes, we need to really think about what is really important. We need to put aside our own needs and wants, and we need to look into what being kind actually truly means, and then, maybe we can look at plugging the gap, and coming a little bit closer to actually embodying the hashtag we’re so quick to throw out into the world.
