Dinah always loved books. She loved the way that they could take her away to a completely different world. When she was a teenager, at school and all of the other students wanted to go to schools, or hospitals for their work experience, but all she wanted was to be assigned to a library.

Of course, the libraries that she’d been to before now, were nothing compared to this. Back then, she would never have dreamed of being employed somewhere as wonderful as this. To the outsider, it is just a library, but behind those doors, it is more. It is so much more. Only a very few actually get to enter here.

The building itself has nothing remarkable about it. It looks no different to any of the other shop fronts and buildings. In fact, to the untrained eye, it is so ordinary that most people will simply walk straight past it as if it isn’t even there.

Made of the same red brick as all of the other houses in the street, with a grey slate roof, which is slightly worn from years of being exposed to the weather, and has patches of acid green moss, cultivated by the steady flow of rain that falls each winter. The windows stretch across the front of the building, adorned with mountains of misted condensation.

It used to worry her at first… the risk of damp, but now, she knew that the library…
