Are they the same?

PANDEMIC & LOCKDOWNS

Never before this last year, has the internet played such a huge role in our lives. When Covid hit, it seemed like the entire world moved online. Lockdowns made it impossible for people to see each other in the normal ways.

Working from home, Zoom meetings, and get togethers over video link became the norm. It took some getting used to, and for some, it was a huge learning curve.

For me, personally, my classes were already online, but my book club started meeting via Skype. My therapy sessions also moved to Skype.

LIFE ONLINE

Basically, my whole life pretty much, was online. As with the rest of the world, I thought that this would probably be a relatively short term thing, but it wasn’t.

Throughout lockdown, I joined a number of groups online, and made new friends through this. It got me thinking about the differences between online friends, versus people we actually see in person.

MISCONCEPTIONS

In the past, there has always been, to some extent, a misconception that friendships made online are not quite as good as those made “in real life.” This is something that, for me, has proven time and time again, to be wrong.
