How To Cope When You Have Depression
I think the first time I remember having depression was when I was thirteen. I was being bullied every day, and had just found out that someone I looked on as a grandfather, was in hospital, seriously ill.
I was desperately upset. Then, a few months later, he passed. Though I hadn’t seen him often, his death hit me really hard. I missed him, and I really grieved for him.
FULL UP
At that time, I felt so full of emotion and feelings that I couldn’t control. I didn’t understand them, and they all felt like too much.
I was tired and anxious all the time. I was having headaches and I felt like I was being filled up by things that I had no idea how to control or deal with.
PSYCHOSOMATIC
My mum took me to the doctor, who thought it was glandular fever. They did blood tests, but they came back normal. I was dismissed.
That wasn’t the first time that I was tested for glandular fever. The first time happened when I was 10. It was exactly the same thing. Tests all normal. The doctor said it was psychosomatic. They told my mum that I was making it up.
