Fibromyalgia- Symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.

How I cope with my chronic pain.

I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

I have lived with chronic pain for most of my life, but until now, no one has been able to put a label on it. I have suffered with headaches and migraines since the age of eleven. I have had problems with my jaw (TMJD) for a little longer than that. I have also had issues with my back, which have turned out to be scoliosis that I inherited from my mother (Yay! Thanks Mum!). There are a whole other slew of health issues, but I won’t bore you with them here.

DIAGNOSIS

Luckily, I am now under the care of a very good doctor, who listened when I raised the possibility of fibromyalgia. She immediately organised tests to try and rule out anything else, before she went ahead and diagnosed me.

You would think that I would be upset after hearing that I had a chronic illness with no known cure. Truthfully, though, in some ways, it was a relief. I had a reason for all of the pain that I was in. I had a reason for the foggy brain, and the… I hesitate to say tiredness, because it is so much more than that…
