Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)

How a game has become a lifeline for me…

It sounds strange to write that, but it’s true. When lockdown was first announced, I felt scared, out of control and trapped. It was a sort of claustrophobia, that I haven’t felt for a long time. It’s not that I dislike being at home… I really don’t. I love my home, and I am more than happy with my own company, but in these uncertain times, when I am stuck with my own, often dysfunctional thoughts, for long periods of time, I find myself becoming very low.

Then, a friend posted something about playing the new Animal Crossing game, and I thought I’d just give it a try. I managed to get a download code for £10 less than the RRP, so, I downloaded it and got started.

I WAS HOOKED

Within moments, I was hooked. This game is quite possibly one of my favourite games, ever (right up there with Spyro and Crash Bandicoot).

It isn’t an action game. It isn’t a platform game, as such. The whole premise is that your character moves to a deserted island, and with the help of a very greedy raccoon named Tom Nook, you begin to build your own little island home and community, by collecting resources, crafting furniture, selling items for bells (the in game currency), and generally, by making your island look exactly as you want it…
