5 Ways To Cope With Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

On dealing with triggers, nightmares and flashbacks

Last week, I had a night full of nightmares. They were particularly bad, and exceptionally realistic. They were so realistic, that I found myself waking up and believing that they were real.

When I woke up, I felt that immense fear, and believed that I was still back there. Those images from my nightmares stayed with me all day.

HIGH ANXIETY

My anxiety was really high, and I didn’t feel like I could focus on anything, because the moment I tried to, I was just overwhelmed by the images once more.

In short, that day, I had to accept that I was not going to have a particularly high productivity day.

So, what did I do to help with this?

  • I EMAILED MY THERAPIST

This is something that my therapist and I agreed on, and is a tool that I have found very useful when I become too triggered.

  • I DID SOME JOURNALING

This is something that always helps me. I tried to do a visual representation of the nightmare, and although I know I will never show it to anyone (except, possibly my therapist,) it helped to get those images out of my head and down on…
